Merrimac – William “Bill” Bockenhauer, 63, of Merrimac, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his residence. Bill was born on Sept. 29, 1952 in Winona, Minnesota, the son of Harlan and Dolores (Stinson) Bockenhauer. Bill was a 1974 graduate of Winona State University and received a degree in Biology and Earth Science. He then joined the United States Navy in March of 1975 and went to Hospital Corps School in San Diego, California. He served the remaining tour of duty at Camp Pendleton, California. On Nov. 29, 1975 he was united in marriage to Kimberly Kearney in Owatonna, Minnesota. After being honorably discharged from the navy, he became employed at the V. A. Hospital in Madison as a Hemodialysis Technician. He then taught science for over 28 years in the Deforest and Baraboo Public School Systems and retired in 2004. Bill was an avid gardener and outdoorsman. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Kimberly of Merrimac; two children, B.J. (Keri) Bockenhauer of Stoughton and Dori Bockenhauer of Baraboo; two grandchildren, Kinzie and Hoffman; mother-in-law, Ollie Kearney of Baraboo; and many other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, grand-parents and father-in-law. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, Baraboo, with Yvonne Smith officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of service. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Greenwood Memorial Post 987. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Muscular Dystrophy Association or U.W. Children’s Hospital would be appreciated. The Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., Baraboo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
